Pittsburgh Crawfords
The Crawfords were organized in 1931 by numbers king, Gus Greenlee, who named the team after his nightspot the Crawford Grill. Having ample cash Greenlee proceeded to build his own ballpark and raid the rival Grays for talent signing a number of Homestead stars. One Crawford James "Cool Papa" Bell was one of the fastest men ever to play the game. The great Buck Leonard also played for the Crawfords moving across town from the Homestead Grays.
