Sioux Falls Canaries

The Nebraska State League was composed entirely of teams affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals (the other cities in the league were Norfolk, Lincoln, and Beatrice). St. Louis GM Branch Rickey - among his many innovations - was largely responsible for the "farm" system, under which the parent club controlled the minor league affiliates. This system was adopted eventually by all the other MLB teams. Wilmer Schroeder won 20 games in a 106-game schedule for the Canaries.
