Jersey City Skeeters

Jersey City received a franchise in the International League in 1918. "Skeeters" is a term for mosquitoes, which populated the swamps near the club's ballpark, West Side Park. The Great Depression killed the team in 1933, after the team drew only 69,000 fans that season, but baseball returned to Jersey City in 1937, when the Giants moved into brand new Roosevelt Stadium.
