League: Negro Southern League
History: The Black Pelicans (named after the city’s Southern Association team) were founded in 1926 and mostly played in the Negro Southern League, which is considered a minor league by baseball historians (except for 1932, when it was the only Black baseball league to play its entire schedule.). Other teams included in the Crescent City’s rich Black baseball history include the Caufield Ads, New Orleans Crescent Stars, and Louis Armstrong’s Secret Nine.
