League: Federal League
History: The Chicago franchise is perhaps the best-known of all the teams that played in the Federal League. The team began in 1912 as members of the United States League, and also played in 1913 when the Federal League was an outlaw minor circuit. The Chicago club has the distinction of playing under four different monikers: Green Sox in 1912, Browns in 1913, Chifeds in 1914, and Whales in 1915. The park now known as Wrigley Field was purpose-built for the Federal League team, opening as Weeghman Park in 1914. The 1914 Chicago squad finished only one and a half games behind pennant-winners Indianapolis, and won the pennant in 1915, the league’s final season.
