History: The team which would become the most celebrated in Negro Leagues history began in 1920 in the first Negro National League. Players were selected from the All Nations barnstorming team and the Army’s 25th Infantry Wreckers. The Monarchs won four NNL titles in the 1920s, and eight additional pennants after moving to the Negro American League in 1937. The Monarchs can count fourteen Hall of Fame inductees, from Bullet Rogan in the 1920s to Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige in the 1940s, to Ernie Banks in the early 1950s. The Monarchs and Indianapolis Clowns survived until the 1960s, with the Monarchs finally folding in 1965.
