League: NFL
History: The Houston Oilers have the distinction of being the first team to win the Championship of the newly formed American Football League (AFL) when they did so by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 in the inaugural season of 1960. They would go Back-to-Back in defeating the Chargers (San Diego) again by a score of 10-3 in 1961. While they did make it to their 3rd straight title game in 1962, they would not 3-peat as they fell to the Dallas Texans 20-17 in a thrilling double overtime affair.
The Oilers also hold the distinction of being the first pro football team to play in a domed stadium when they did so by moving into the Houston Astrodome in 1967. The Oilers merged with the NFL in 1970 and then moved to Tennessee in 1997 and were called the Oilers for 2 more seasons before becoming the Tennessee Titans of today. The Titans are currently members of the AFC Southern Division and play their home games in Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee.
