Snippets of the 1928 Navy Midshipmen baseball team by position, as described in the US Naval Academy Luck Bag yearbook:
"In the infield Jerry Miller, Captain-elect for 1929, at first base was the big gun. 'Rebel' Lowrance solved the third base problem very efficiently. The battle for the short field for a while was hotly contested between Millican and Stroh, but Stroh sprinted near the end of the season and finished in that berth.
In the outfiled we had Genter, Lampe, and Porter, all youngsters playing their first varsity ball. Genter was outstanding and the find of the season - a ballhawk who packed a timely wallop! Gubbins and Hicks divided the backstopping duties. Both were fast, able men with throwing arms which cut down many unwary base runners.
The 1928 squad would finish with a 6-9-2 record (2 ties!) including a last game loss to bitter rival Army."
