League: Continental Football League
History: The Continental Football League hoped to follow in the footsteps of the AFL and eventually become the third “major” professional football league. Philadelphia joined the new circuit in 1965 when the Canton Bulldogs of the minor United Football League (no relation to the original NFL team) relocated to the City of Brotherly Love. The team found success on the field, winning the league crown in 1966, but the Bulldogs failed to draw enough fans to Temple Stadium to stay in business.
