History: Founded in 1954, Coastal Carolina's athletics teams were called the Trojans. When the school became an extension of the University of South Carolina there was a push for a name change to reflect the connection. With USC being the Gamecocks, the Chanticleers was chosen, named after the rooster that features in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Even after Coastal separated from USC, the name still stuck. The Chanticleers baseball team, the winners of the school's only Natty, play their home games at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
