History: The Motor City Giants were Detroit’s entry in the United States Baseball League, which was organized by Brooklyn Dodger president Branch Rickey and Pittsburgh Crawfords owner Gus Greenlee. The team was owned by Ben Linton. When use of the Tigers’ home Briggs Stadium was denied, the Giants were forced to play games at DeQuindre Park, now the site of an empty pickle factory and warehouse.
