History: The Titans of New York were charter members of the American Football League (AFL) which began play in 1960. They were coached by the legendary Slingin' Sammy Baugh who guided the Titans to back-to-back 7-7 records. The Titans leading receiver was future Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Maynard. The Titans would change their name to the New York Jets beginning with the 1963 season and in 1965, Maynard would begin an 11 year stretch as the number one receiving target for the quarterback who guaranteed victory for the AFL and delivered in Super Bowl III - Joe Willie Namath. The Jets football club of today are members of the American Football Conference Eastern Division and play their home games in MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey.
