AUTHENTIC SHAWL COLLAR VARSITY SWEATER WORN AT NOTRE DAME IN 1940

History:
The first varsity sweaters were worn by Harvard baseball players in 1865, but the style quickly spread to every American university as a symbol of athletic excellence and collegiate pride. The look was all over the Notre Dame campus during the “Golden Age” of Fighting Irish football in the 1940s, which saw the Irish achieve 4 national championships, 2 Heisman trophies, and a perfect 10-0 season in 1949.

This varsity cardigan pays tribute to life at Notre Dame in the 1940s, made with a heavyweight cotton yarn and an interlocking ‘ND’ chenille patch.
