St. Louis Browns 1909 Wool Cardigan Sweater
AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION OF THE 1909 ST. LOUIS BROWNS SHAWL COLLAR SWEATER
History: The Browns’ 1909 roster included Rube Waddell, one of baseball’s most dominating pitchers and eccentric characters. Teams did their best to tolerate his antics because of his skill (he led the major leagues in strikeouts for six consecutive years), but his odd behavior wore out his welcome with several squads. One particularly infamous story about Waddell involved him disappearing during the off-season to wrestle alligators in the circus. He also was said to be easily distracted by puppies and shiny objects. Waddell logged 141 strikeouts and 11 wins for the Browns in 1909, but St. Louis could only manage a seventh-place finish.
This shawl collar sweater is an authentic reproduction of the team cardigan worn by the 1909 St. Louis Browns, made with heavyweight alpaca and wool blend yarn with a wool felt emblem on the front.
