History: The Shochiku Robins exploded onto the scene in 1950, the inaugural season of Japan’s new two-league professional structure. They won the Central League with a remarkable 98–35–4 record, led by MVP Makoto Kozuru, who hit .355 with 51 home runs and 161 RBI. Pitcher Juzo Sanada went 39–12 and won the inaugural Sawamura Award. The Robins advanced to the first-ever Japan Series, where they faced the Mainichi Orions and lost four games to two. Their spectacular debut remains one of the most remarkable seasons by a short-lived Japanese franchise.
