PIGMENT-DYED GRAPHIC T-SHIRT HONORING THE SANKEI ATOMS

History: From 1965 through 1968, this Central League club played as the Atoms, borrowing its name from Osamu Tezuka’s enormously popular manga character Astro Boy, known in Japan as Tetsuwan Atomu. The team became particularly memorable in 1967 when American slugger Dave Roberts joined the roster after a career in the U.S. minor leagues. Roberts quickly became one of Japan’s most productive hitters and earned a place on the 1969 Central League Best Nine. The franchise later became the Yakult Swallows, but the Atoms identity remains a beloved piece of Tokyo baseball history.
