AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION OF THE 1922 NEW YORK YANKEES SHAWL COLLAR SWEATER

History: In 1922, Babe Ruth gave his trainer the team sweater he and his fellow Yankees wore while warming up. That cardigan still survives today, and we based this reproduction on that piece of baseball history (minus the handwritten ‘Ruth’ in the lower back of the original). He presumably replaced it with a new one, because a year later, during the first game the Pinstripes played in the newly built Yankee Stadium, he and his teammates were photographed warming up in sweaters identical to this one. The Great Bambino hit a 3-run homer that game, his first in the new park, helping to defeat the Boston Red Sox 4–1 and kicking off a season that saw Ruth finish with a .393 average and the Yankees claim their first-ever World Series title.

This shawl collar sweater is an authentic reproduction of the team cardigan worn by the Yankees in the early 1920s, made with heavyweight alpaca and wool blend yarn with a wool felt emblem on the front.
