AUTHENTIC NEW YORK YANKEES SHAWL COLLAR SWEATER

History: In 1922, Babe Ruth gave his trainer the team sweater he and his fellow Yankees wore while warming up. That cardigan still survives today, and we based our reproduction on that piece of baseball history (minus the handwritten ‘Ruth’ in the lower back of the original). He presumably replaced it with a new one, because a year later, during the first game the Pinstripes played in the newly built Yankee Stadium, Ruth and his teammates were photographed warming up in matching sweaters just like this one. The Great Bambino hit a 3-run homer that game, helping to defeat the Boston Red Sox 4–1 and kicking off a season that saw Ruth finish with a .393 average and the Yankees claim their first-ever World Series title.

Though the original team cardigan was grey with navy details, this all-navy rendition stays true to the look and feel of the team sweater worn by the Yankees in the early 1920s, made with heavyweight alpaca and wool blend yarn with a wool felt emblem on the front.
