COLLARED LONG SLEEVE GOALIE JERSEY HONORING SHEP MESSING AND THE NEW YORK COSMOS

History: In 1973, the New York Cosmos drafted their first American in goalkeeper Shep Messing, a wisecracking Long Islander who graduated from Harvard, played in the Olympics, and got himself cut from the Cosmos after posing nude in Viva magazine. However, two years later, after Messing put up a few great saves against his former squad, Pelé himself requested Shep be brought back. He was part of the most legendary Cosmos roster in history, and tended goal during the 1977 Soccer Bowl championship — Pelé's last professional match — after which he and the opposing goalie hoisted the superstar on their shoulders for a victory lap around the pitch.

We designed this jersey in honor of the maverick Cosmos goalie known to keep a safety pin in his shorts to jab opponents during corner kicks. It's made from a heavyweight 100% cotton jersey with an embroidered chest patch and Shep Messing's name and number applied with a velour print.
