History: The present-day Chunichi Dragons began in 1936 as the Nagoya Club, one of the original teams of Japan’s professional baseball league. In 1938, the club was still in its formative years, finishing fourth in the fall season with a 19–18 record. Among its most important young players was Michio Nishizawa, who had joined the team at just 15 years old in 1936. By 1939, the teenage pitcher had developed into a 20-game winner, beginning a remarkable career that would eventually see him become one of the franchise’s defining figures.
