History: In the postwar years, the Havana Cubans stood at the center of a changing game. Playing in the Florida International League, the club won multiple pennants between 1947 and 1950 and regularly fielded rosters stacked with Cuban-born standouts. Under the guidance of Alex Pompez — whose influence stretched from the Negro Leagues to Major League scouting — the organization became a vital gateway for Afro-Latino players at a time when opportunities in organized baseball were limited. The Cubans’ sustained success across several seasons made them more than a novelty; they were a powerhouse that forced the baseball establishment to recognize the depth of talent coming out of Havana.
