VARSITY LETTERMAN JACKET INSPIRED BY THE 1950 HARVARD CRIMSON
History: In 1865 the Harvard baseball squad started honoring their best players with thick flannel pullovers with a big ‘H’ sewn onto the front, and the tradition of the letterman jacket was born. Though the design evolved and spread all over the world, the roots of this iconic style are firmly planted in Harvard Yard.
The 1950 Crimson baseball team was captained by WWII veteran "Lefty" Caulfield, who led the conference with a .436 batting average and was later inducted into the Harvard Athletics Hall of Fame. Their coach, born-and-raised Bostonian Stuffy McInnis, was a four-time World Series champion in his day, winning one of those ‘chips with Babe Ruth on the 1918 Red Sox squad.
Inspired by the letterman jacket worn by the 1950 team, ours is made with a real wool body, leather sleeves, and white chenille patches and lettering.
