WOOL BALLCAP HONORING THE 1963 XALAPA CHILEROS

History: Xalapa, Veracruz claims to be the city where baseball first came to Mexico. Legend has it American soldiers introduced the game there during the Mexican-American War in 1847. When la Liga Invernal Veracruzana (the Veracruz Winter League) was founded in 1952, the Chileros became Xalapa's professional club — battling intense rivalries and riling up their home crowd for one memorable decade. The Chileros folded along with the league in 1963, but when the league was revived in '05, the green and white emerged from the history books ready to play ball, winning the championship in the 2007-08 season.
