Philadelphia Stars 1940 Authentic Wool Ballcap
AUTHENTIC WOOL BALLCAP HONORING THE PHILADELPHIA STARS
History: The 1940 Philadelphia Stars were a team of locals. Outfielder Fats Jenkins moonlighted as a point guard for the famed New York Renaissance basketball team. Seventeen-year-old Mahlon Duckett — a Philly kid out of Overbrook High School — had to get his parents' permission just to suit up. He did, took over at second base, and by season's end had been named the Negro National League's Rookie of the Year. Not bad for a kid who almost wasn't allowed to play.
Made with genuine wool broadcloth and our signature green satin underbrim, this ballcap features a flat embroidered logo of the Philadelphia Stars logo in honor of the iconic Negro League ballclub.
