History: The team that would become the Chunichi Dragons was there on the very first day of professional baseball in Japan. On April 29, 1936, playing as the Nagoya Club, they beat Dai Tokyo 8-5 — the first victory in Japanese pro baseball history. The franchise would go through half a dozen name changes before settling on the Dragons in 1954, the same year they went 86-40 and won the Japan Series in five games over the Nishitetsu Lions. One of only four original 1936 clubs still in existence, the Dragons have been part of Japanese baseball since the beginning — literally.
