Charleston Charlies Pillbox Cap

VINTAGE-STYLE WOOL PILLBOX HAT HONORING THE CHARLESTON CHARLIES
History: The Charleston Charlies were a Triple-A club in the International League from 1971 to 1983, playing at Watt Powell Park and cycling through four big league parents over their 13-year run. They won the league championship in 1977 — the same year they absorbed a handful of Toronto Blue Jays prospects on loan while the expansion club got its footing. Willie Randolph came through on his way to becoming a six-time All-Star. In their final season, 1983, the Charlies went 74-66 and made the playoffs one last time before the Indians moved the franchise to Maine.
Made from genuine wool broadcloth with felt appliqué lettering, this pillbox-style hat is a reproduction of the Charleston Charlies' on-field ballcap from 1983. The style first had its heyday in the late 1800s, but in 1976 the Pittsburgh Pirates helped bring the look back for a while. As a Pirates affiliate team, the Charlies adopted the look, and kept the pillbox as a part of their uniform after moving to Cleveland's farm system, where they swapped in the Indians' red and blue.
