RE-CREATION OF THE CARTA BLANCA BASEBALL TEAM BALLCAP

History: A few years ago we were researching some Mexican baseball history when we stumbled across a large cache of black and white photos, mostly from the 1920s and earlier. Although most of the photos were uncaptioned save a team name, we were able to dig up additional sources and some of our knowledgeable customers even helped fill in a few gaps. We now know that these photographs represented a time when baseball exploded in the Mexico City area. The teams represented were mostly from civic and governmental organizations and the military, with a few early professional teams included.

We’re proud to release the third capsule in our “Mystery Caps of Mexico” collection, featuring six caps never before available through Ebbets, or anywhere else. They have been produced in very limited quantities, guaranteeing that you will have a true collector’s item

Founded in Monterrey in 1939 by Mexican brewery Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, the team was named after one of the brands produced by the brewery. The team, also nicknamed the “Gray Ghosts” (Fantasmas Grises), continues to play today, but the Carta Blanca name only stuck until 1941. In ’42 they became the Industriales and won their first of 10 total league titles in ‘43, then after winning their second title in ’47 they changed their name again in ’48 to the Sultanes, the name they still use today.
