History: The 1955 season was transformative for the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Dominican winter league as a whole. With the championship calendar shifting to fall and winter, the Aguiluchos began competing alongside more of the nation’s top professional talent, deepening rivalries with Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido. During the 1955–56 campaign, Águilas swept Licey in the semifinals before falling to Escogido in the final series — a gritty performance that helped solidify their identity as perennial contenders in Santiago’s baseball‑mad Cibao region. This era helped set the stage for the franchise’s future: more than 20 national titles and six Caribbean Series championships.
