History: Alabama made their first College World Series appearance in 1950 after becoming SEC regular season conference champions. The Crimson Tide went 12-4 in conference play and posted an overall record of 23-12. The 1950 team featured several players who would go on to feature in the Majors, including brothers Al and Frank Lary, both of whom were pitchers. Of the two brothers, Frank went on to have the more successful pro career. While Al only pitched a total of 40 Big League innings, his brother Frank played 11 seasons for five different teams and earned a Gold Glove in 1961, was a three-time All-Star and was the American League wins leader in 1956 when he won 21 games for the Detroit Tigers. Frank Lary compiled a record of 27-10 against the New York Yankees from 1955 to 1961, earning him the nickname “The Yankee Killer.”
