History: The San Bernardino Spirit were the first professional baseball team to make their home in San Bernardino when they got their start in 1987. The Spirit played under that name from ’87 to ’95 when they changed the name to the San Bernardino Stampede. They held onto that name until 2002, and after that season they once again changed their name to the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino. Along with their name changes, they also changed affiliate teams several teams. Beginning with the first of two stints as a High-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners from 1987-94, they then spent 1995-2000 as an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They went back for their second spell with the Mariners from 2001-2006, then returned to the Dodgers from 2007-2010. The now-Inland Empire 66ers have been an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels since 2011. Whatever their name, the San Bernardino team has won six league titles, with the first coming in 1995, and have been graced by the presence of Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Adrian Beltre.
