The Santurce Cangrejeros

We’re proud to honor Puerto Rican baseball and one of the island’s most storied teams. Playing for a sprawling working-class district of San Juan, the Santurce Cangrejeros (“crabbers” in English) fielded star-studded teams throughout the postwar era, including an overpowering 1954-55 Winter League squad that featured future Hall of Famers Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. That deliriously talented team stormed its way to both the Puerto Rican and Caribbean championships.
