History: While Notre Dame was founded in 1842 by French missionaries, over the years its heavily Irish Catholic student body imbued the university with Celtic heritage. The name "Fighting Irish" was made official in 1927, and the shamrock — a quintessential Irish symbol — became a secondary emblem for the school, eventually making its way to the side of Notre Dame football helmets from 1959-62.

Made from genuine wool broadcloth and decorated with authentic Notre Dame logos, this pillbox-style hat reaches back to the 1880s, when the flat-crowned pillbox was the standard cap in professional baseball, and to the 1970s, when the Pittsburgh Pirates brought it back and made it one of the most iconic looks in the sport.
