COTTON TWILL BALLCAP HONORING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII RAINBOW WARRIORS

History: Orange is not an official color for the University of Hawaii, but the baseball team still wears it in honor of Hall of Fame coach Les Murakami. In 1971, "Coach Les" took over Hawaii's baseball program with no scholarships, no field, and no budget for uniforms — so he borrowed some spare jerseys from a league team he also coached, which were green and orange. Murakami went on to build a national power from scratch: carving a stadium out of a rock quarry, leading the Rainbows to the 1980 College World Series, and sending dozens of players on to pro ball. He retired in 2000 after a 30-year career, but the orange lives on.

Made from sturdy cotton twill with our signature green satin underbrim, this hat — inspired by the team's on-field ballcap from the mid-1990s — honors the University of Hawaii baseball program and the coach who built it, quite literally, from the dirt up.
