League: American Association

History: Since 1981 the Iowa Cubs have played as a Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The club was initially founded in 1969, playing in the American Association as the Iowa Cubs, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. They kept that name despite going from an affiliate of the A’s to the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, and back to the White Sox before their name change along with becoming the Cubs affiliate in ‘82. From ’69 to ’97 the Des Moines team played in the American Association before joining the Pacific Coast League – despite an obvious distance from the Pacific Coast – following the dissolution of the American Association. Today the Cubs play in the International League with their home games played at Principal Park.
