St. Louis Browns 1909 Wool Cardigan Sweater
THE ORIGINAL ST. LOUIS BROWNS 1909 CARDIGAN SWEATER
History: The Browns’ 1909 roster included Rube Waddell, one of baseball’s most dominating pitchers, but also one of its most eccentric characters. Despite his pitching prowess, Waddell’s odd behavior (exacerbated by his drinking) meant that he wore out his welcome on several teams, and by his time with the Browns he was close to the end of his Major League career. Among other stories, it is said that Waddell once disappeared during the off-season and went to wrestle alligators in a circus. He also was easily distracted by puppies and shiny objects. Waddell managed to win 11 games for the Browns, but St. Louis could only manage a seventh-place finish.
