History: When the war ended and the soldiers came home in 1945, minor league baseball came roaring back with them. Crowds flooded back to LA's Wrigley Field in 1946 — the Angels drew over half a million fans as the postwar boom hit baseball harder than almost anywhere in the country. PCL president Clarence "Pants" Rowland used that energy to petition the major leagues for recognition as a third major league. The request was denied, but the Angels kept packing the house anyway, doing LA proud over a decade before the city would get its own big-league squad.
