AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION OF THE 1901 BALTIMORE ORIOLES SHAWL COLLAR SWEATER

History: This version of the Orioles is unrelated to the team we know today. In 1901, Ban Johnson’s American League was still an “outlaw” outfit competing with the older National League for players and fans. After the New York Giants’ ownership blocked Johnson’s attempt at starting a new franchise in the Big Apple, Baltimore was chosen instead. The original roster included players like Roger Bresnahan and Joe McGinnity with John McGraw as manager. However, McGraw quickly abandoned Baltimore for the Giants and took several players with him, critically weakening the Orioles franchise. The club collapsed after the 1902 season and was replaced by the New York Highlanders, today known as the Yankees.

This shawl collar sweater is an authentic reproduction of the team cardigan worn by the 1901 Baltimore Orioles, made with heavyweight alpaca and wool blend yarn with a wool felt emblem on the front.
