Phoenix Giants 1983 Pillbox Cap
$68 USD
VINTAGE-STYLE WOOL PILLBOX HAT HONORING THE PHOENIX GIANTS
History: For nearly four decades, Phoenix Municipal Stadium was where San Francisco Giants prospects came to prove themselves before the call to the majors. The Phoenix Giants were the top affiliate in the Giants' system from 1966 through 1985, sitting in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League just one phone call away from Candlestick Park. The club won the PCL championship in 1977, and over the years sent a steady stream of talent up to San Francisco — making Phoenix one of the most reliable stops on the road to the big leagues.
Made from genuine wool broadcloth with felt appliqué lettering, this pillbox-style hat is a reproduction of the Phoenix Giants' on-field ballcap from 1983. The style first had its heyday in the late 1800s, but in 1976 the Pittsburgh Pirates helped bring the look back for a while. With its horizontal stripes and old-english 'P,' the Giants ballcap is a nod to the look the Pirates won the World Series with in 1979.
