JAPANESE BASEBALL

Baseball took root in Japan in the late 1800s, with the first professional teams starting in the 1930s. Before and after World War II, many US teams undertook goodwill tours to the islands. At the same time, Americans of Japanese descent formed spectacular teams consisting of Nisei (1st generation Japanese American players) who competed at the highest amateur levels, even playing hundreds of games in the internment camps that they were forced to reside in during the war. We play homage to this history here in our Japanese Baseball Collection.
