League: Prison Team
History: The small frontier town of Rawlins, Wyoming was home to one of baseball’s strangest stories. It was decided to form a prison baseball team, which included some of Wyoming’s most hardened criminals. Prison ball teams were not unusual, however the WSP team was promised reduced sentences and even commutation of execution for good play. Unfortunate prisoners who committed errors or otherwise failed to perform were threatened with added time to their sentences. After four consecutive lopsided wins, the “Cons” were disbanded and the baseball team replaced with an education program for the prisoners.
