History: The stadium affectionately known by locals as "The Old Rockpile" was a WPA project which opened in 1937. Original capacity was 33,000, but expansions eventually raised the total number of fans who could be accommodated to 46,500. With a classic football configuration, it was an awkward fit for baseball, with the infield jammed in one end of the oval, but in its aging state it proved to have the ideal atmosphere for shooting the classic baseball film "The Natural". The stadium hosted the original Buffalo Bills-Bisons of the All-America Football Conference from 1946-49, and the new Bills of the AFL in 1960.
