History: The Oklahoma Sooners began the 1966 campaign with 4 straight wins including a big Red River Rivalry victory over arch rival Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Head Coach Jim Mackenzie would win the 1966 Big 8 Coach of the year. Sadly, this would be his first and last season at the helm as he passed away unexpectedly before the start of the 1967 season. The Oklahoma Sooners are currently members of the Big-12 Conference and play their home games on Owen Field in the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, Oklahoma.
