History: The Toronto Metros joined the NASL as an expansion team in 1971, playing home games at Varsity Stadium. The somewhat awkward hyphenated name came about in 1975, when Toronto Croatia of Canada's National Soccer League purchased the club. The team won the 1976 Soccer Bowl (the NASL's championship game), defeating the Minnesota Kicks.
