History: Former Cleveland Buckeyes star Sam Jethroe scored 105 runs as the unaffiliated Leafs topped Rochester for the pennant. Jethroe had been one of three black players (another was Jackie Robinson) who had tried out for the Boston Red Sox in 1945, but were turned away. Toronto also led the league in attendance with over 315,000 fans passing through the turnstiles at Maple Leaf Stadium.
