History: The Pittsburgh Steelers selected running back Rocky Bleier from Notre Dame with their final pick of the 1968 NFL Draft in the 16th round. Bleier played in 10 games in his rookie season, running for 39 yards on six carries and adding 68 receiving yards on three catches. Then in December of that year he was drafted into the U.S. Army and he later shipped out to Vietnam. While deployed Bleier was seriously wounded, being shot in the left leg and having his right leg and foot damaged by shrapnel from an enemy grenade, for which he was awarded both the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Despite being told by doctor's that he'd never play football again, Bleier returned to the Steelers and eventually won back a starting spot in '74 and went on to play in the team's first four Super Bowl wins. By the time he retired after the 1980 season Rocky Blair had racked up 3,865 rushing yards, 1,294 receiving yards, 25 touchdowns, and four championship rings.
