History: The Hornets began life as the Pittsburgh Shamrocks playing in old Duquesne Gardens. In 1952 they beat Providence to win the Calder Cup the AHL's championship trophy. The original Hornets moved to Rochester when Duquesne became unusable but a new Hornets franchise replaced them and lasted until the NHL expansion Penguins arrived in 1966.
