League: Philadelphia Industrial League
History: The Philadelphia Army Quartermaster Depot team was a top club in Philadelphia's semi-pro Industrial League. The team was integrated, and managed by player-manager Oscar Charleston, perhaps the most under-appreciated player in the Negro Leagues. Charleston played and managed for over 20 teams in the Negro Leagues and Cuba. It's documented that he hit .326 in competition against all-white teams. The Quartermaster Depot club was integrated. After his playing career, which lasted from 1915 to 1941, Charleston went on to manage the Brooklyn Brown Dodgers for Branch Rickey, but his real role was scouting Black talent, including catcher Roy Campanella, for Rickey after the integration of the majors.
