History: In 1946 a baseball war broke out in Cuba between the established Cuban League, who had moved their games to the new Gran Stadium, and the Federation League, which played at La Tropical. The situation was complicated by the recent attempt by Jorge Pascual's Mexican League to entice players from Organized Baseball to jump their contracts and play in Mexico. The U.S. major leagues responded by banning players who had gone to Mexico, and the new Federation League upheld the ban, while the Cuban League allowed banned players. In an effort to appeal to fans of the popular Almendares Cuban League team, the Oriente club adopted blue as their team color.
