History: This club was formed when the Nishitetsu Clippers merged with the Nishi-Nippon Pirates in 1951 (Japanese words are not always consistently transliterated into English on uniforms, hence the different spellings). The team, playing in Heiwadai Stadium, won three consecutive Japan Series titles against the fabled Tokyo Giants in the 1950s.
