Denver Bears 1957 T-Shirt
History: Mile High Stadium in Denver became known as a football haven for the AFL (and later NFL) Denver Broncos. However, it started out as a humble 18,000 seat home of the Denver Bears baseball team in 1948. After more than doubling the attendance of any other Western League club in 1955, the Bears were promoted to AAA status the following season. Bears’ owner Bob Howsam expanded the park when Denver was awarded a franchise in Branch Rickey’s new Continental League in 1959. That league never played a game, but after many attempts, Denver finally joined the majors in 1993 with the arrival of the Rockies. The Rockies played their first two seasons in the Bears’ old park.
